Operation Round Up® is a voluntary program that allows Tideland EMC members to help fellow members struggling with home energy costs. |
Operation Round Up is just what the name implies. Each month, Tideland EMC simply “rounds up” the electric bills of participating members to the next highest dollar. For example, if your bill one month is $81.75, the bill would be automatically rounded up to $82 and the extra 25¢ would be deposited in the Operation Round Up fund. The average contribution per member is approximately 50¢ a month, or $6 annually, and contributions are tax deductible.
Operation Round Up Plus is another way to give to the program. Instead of rounding up your bill, you can choose to give a fixed amount to the program monthly in any increment: $1, $2, $5 or more.
Funds collected through the Operation Round Up program are primarily used to assist members who are experiencing a health or financial crisis that jeopardizes their ability to pay for electric service. Most often recipients are elderly or disabled members who have exhausted all other means of assistance. Tideland energy auditors frequently follow up with recipients to help them reduce future energy expenses. So we are providing a hand up, not a hand out.
Operation Round Up also funds eight $1,000 college scholarships annually for deserving high school seniors in the local area.
