This information was emailed to Tideland EMC members on Sept. 24, 2026 along with a text message. Automated phone calls to impacted members will be delivered over the weekend. A reminder text message will be sent to members on Monday, Sept. 28 before the outage occurs. 

Tideland EMC and Dominion Energy will conduct a 7-hour transmission outage on Tuesday, September 29. 

This outage will impact all members served by Tideland’s Five Points and Washington substations. 

Power will be turned off on Tuesday, September 29 at 12:01 am and restored by 7 am.

Before turning in Monday night, September 28, we recommend you do the following:

• Fully charge devices you rely on including cell phones
• Set an alarm on a battery backup clock or your cell phone to avoid oversleeping Tuesday morning
• Have a safe, alternative lighting source available and avoid the use of open flame candles

  Dependent on uninterrupted electric service for home medical equipment?
  Please arrange for a backup power source or seek alternative accommodations during the event.

The transmission outage will take place rain or shine.

A text message will be sent to members as soon as power is restored.

Why is this planned outage taking place?
Significant capital improvements are being made to Dominion’s transmission delivery point which will benefit Tideland members for decades to come. It is necessary for us to shut power off to ensure power company personnel and heavy equipment operators can work safely on the transmission system.

Why is this outage taking place after dark?
An overnight outage is less disruptive to member businesses. Tuesday's overnight outdoor low temperature is expected to be 60 degrees Farenheit which should be more comfortable for members than an outage during the daytime with temperatures in the 80s. 

What areas are included in the outage?

The Five Points substation has three circuits serving 1,623 members

• Braddy Road circuit 278 members
• Duck Creek/Springdale Village circuit 940 members
• Howell's Mill circuit 405 members

The Washington substation has three circuits serving 1,814 members

• Pamlico Village circuit 533 members
• Country Club circuit 614 members
• Plantation circuit 501 members
