Evening Power Restoration Update
Friday, 7 pm update:
We have restored power to 6,299 members.
13,851 members remain without power.
Crews will work until after dark and then return to hotels for the night and resume work at 5 am Saturday, September 7.
Below is a summary of restoration work in most areas of our service territory. In many areas, tree crews are doing most of the work at this time so line crews can come in and repair downed power lines. South of the Pamlico River we are in much better shape than we were during Hurricane Florence. However, damages in our Engelhard district and at Ocracoke are much more severe than both Florence and Michael.
MAINLAND DARE COUNTY: Dominion's transmission line damage is extensive. Current estimate is that they will restore transmission service to our Manns Harbor delivery point on Saturday night. Once transmission service is restored, Tideland crews will begin distribution repairs which currently include broken pole replacements, tree removal and broken line repairs.
FAIRFIELD & ENGELHARD: The lines that feed our Fairfield and Engelhard substations are the site of a major heavy construction project to repair and replace 10 primary poles. Power will not be restored tonight.
EDWARD SUBSTATION CIRCUITS: Pole damage was very limited but quite a few issues related to trees and limbs and downed wire. We have had some initial success restoring power to members on the Blounts Creek and Bonnerton circuits who are either closest to the substation or on the main line. The Lowland circuit damage assessment has resumed after initial attempts to restore power failed. We also have trees on the primary on the Craven County circuit but restored power to 204 members at 6:45 pm.
FAIRFIELD HARBOUR SUBSTATION: Several trees on the primary lines on the Cayton Rd circuit. Was restored at 6:15 pm. About 250 members remain without power in Fairfield Harbour and along Broad Creek Rd.
MERRITT CIRCUIT: Two broken poles reported but damage much less extensive than during Hurricane Florence. Power restored to 417 members between the substation and the prison. Lee Electrical crews from Virginia have been working on the circuit all day and work will continue tomorrow.
ARAPAHOE CIRCUIT: Over 500 members on the circuit have had power restored. 1554 remain off. We also have a large number of individual consumer hazard outages in that area.
WASHINGTON: Quite a few trees on primary lines and some secondary wire is down on the Pamlico Village circuit (consumer hazards). We should see some restoration success tonight.
PONZER SUBSTATION: Dowry Creek circuit is 60% restored. Rose Bay circuit remains off with quite a few trees on the primary line.
PLYMOUTH SUBSTATION: Transmission restored this afternoon and crews are patrolling now so they can energize distribution circuits. Most should be restored tonight but we do have some wire down and pole top hardware damage.
SWAN QUARTER: We have crews working in that area but we have trees on the primary and also primary wire down.
FIVE POINTS SUBSTATION: Broken pole(s) on the Acre Station circuit. Tree crews working on Duck Creek - Springdale Village circuits.
OCRACOKE: Transmission is out from Cape Hatteras Electric. Pole damage on north end of Hatteras Island. Transmission construction crews have been called in to assist and will arrive at Hatteras tomorrow morning. CHEC and Tideland will also conduct aerial assessments tomorrow. However, many individual homes on Ocracoke Island will have to be inspected on the island prior to power restoration due to extensive flooding earlier today. Our Ocracoke office received six inches of flood water and will therefore not be open to the public until further notice.
